The History of Plastering – A Journey through time Speaker: David Winchester. David’s talk will take us through the history of decorative plastering through to the present day. He will also discuss the plasterwork found at Hoghton Tower and Astley Hall. |

Samlesbury Hall – Speaker: Mrs Glen Clayton
Glen will talk to us about some of the fascinating history of Samlesbury Hall which stretches back over 800 years. |

A G M
The AGM will be held in the meeting room and this year only is in addition to the usual monthly meeting. Topics to be covered (other than the usual election of officials and submission of accounts) include a change to certain rules and a review of the constitution. |

Anne Lister of Shibden Hall – Speaker: Pat Osborne
Pat will explore the fascinating story of Anne Lister who farmed, supervised building work, dealt with tenants and developed coal mining on her land at Shibden Hall in early 1800s. The story was recently dramatised by the BBC in the series ‘Gentleman Jack’. |

William P Hartley, Jam Maker & Philanthropist – Speaker: Rev Keith Richardson
Tonight we will hear the story of William Pickles Hartley and how a 16 year old boy from Colne began what became a famous household name in food production. In addition to producing jam, he also became a great benefactor as his wealth grew. |

Technological Dead Ends – Ideas that have gone nowhere – Speaker: Dr Dave Southall
Dave Southall has been a street performer, acrobat, university lecturer, special effects technician and lately, a TV presenter. In addition to his several degrees, he also has a shed where he designs all manner of machines, usually starting with an engine. Tonight, Dave will talk about ideas that initially seemed promising but did not prove successful. |

Dave will talk about the history of one of the oldest brass bands in the country as well |

Preston Tram Road – Speaker: Steve Ashcroft
The Preston Tram road was a five mile temporary structure to link the north and south ends of the Lancaster canal and was completed in 1803. The tram road was never replaced by a canal due to the rise in popularity of the railways. Steve will give us a history of this local feature. |

Alex will tell us about the general history of the poppy as a sign of remembrance, and also explain about the distinction between the red and white poppies as symbols of peace. |
